About the course

The government is responsible for developing laws that require all employers to ensure the health, safety and welfare of their employees and visitors in the workplace. Different workplaces and individual employees are affected by different risks so the government introduced The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 [HASWA].

Preparing for the moving and handling of individuals is vitally important. This preparation should begin before any attempt is made to move and handle individuals. 

This moving and handling of people training programme is designed to provide students with the essential knowledge and understanding of the safe process of moving people to prevent injury to themselves and the person being moved, whilst also covering the legal requirements regarding the handling of people.

This course is an awareness only and does not provide the learner with skills to practise safe handling in the workplace. Further practical training should be given by the employer.

• Then looks at guidelines for lifting
• And ends with risk assessments

Lesson 03 - Using Moving and Handling Techniques to Assist Individuals from One Position To Another

• Lesson 3 begins with a look at immobility
• Before going through ways of supporting the individual and maintaining dignity
• It then looks at problems that may occur and any risks
• Before looking at unsafe and controversial methods of moving and handling
• And ending on equipment maintenance

Lesson 04 - Reducing The Adverse Effects of Pressure

• Lesson 4 begins by covering the adverse effects of pressure
• Takes you through the stages of a pressure sore
• And finally, nutrition, care planning and how to reduce risk

Final Test

Complete the final test to prove your knowledge.

(We understand that not everyone will pass the course the first time. If you don’t pass the course on your first attempt, don’t worry, you’ll be able to retake the course free of charge up to 6 times.)
