Every year in the UK, thousands of people die or are seriously injured in incidents. Many deaths could be prevented if first aid was given before emergency services arrive.
This course is suitable for anyone in a work or home environment and specifically suited for people who are designated as an appointed person in the workplace. It meets the needs of those supporting a qualified First Aid at Work (FAW) practitioner. The content also fulfills the requirements for the FAW annual refresher.
This course is ideal for those who want to refresh their knowledge of the theory of first aid but is not designed to train staff to be first aiders, only to give the knowledge. You never know when you may need to use first aid skills or act in a potentially life-threatening situation, this course will give you the confidence to do just that.

Once you complete this course you will understand:
- What first aid is and importantly what it isn’t. You will learn what the aims of first aid are and how it’s defined.
- First aid regulations and Health & Safety Acts.
- How to respond to various first aid scenarios including; burns, shock, heart attack, fainting, wounds, bleeding and stroke.
- How to put someone into the recovery position, including positions for babies.
- The principles of resuscitation including, DR ABC (Danger & Response then, Airways, Breathing and Circulation) and the ratio of CPR.
Course overview
Here’s what we’ll be covering in each lesson (each lesson is a maximum of 4 mins long, making it easy to quickly make fantastic progress, even if you only have a small amount of time each day).
Lesson 01 - What is First Aid
- The course kicks off here, you’ll learn about the definition and aims of First Aid
Lesson 02 - Acts & Regulation
- Lesson 2 takes a brief look at the Acts starting with Health and Safety at Work Act
- Moving through the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981
- And finally, the Management of the Health and Safety at work Regulations 1999
Lesson 03 - Emergency Services
- Lesson 3 covers the Emergency Services
Lesson 04 - What to do when
- Lesson 4 covers various scenarios and what to do from immediate treatment of burns to controlling bleeding and reacting to signs of stroke
Lesson 05 - The Recovery Position
- Lesson 5 begins with when to use the recovery position
- And goes on to cover the recovery position for babies
Lesson 06 - Resuscitation
- Lesson 6 begins with the principles of resuscitation
- Follows with an explanation of the acronym DR ABC
- Takes you through the ratio for resuscitation
- And ends with The Chain of Survival for a typical casualty
Final Test
Complete the final test to prove your knowledge.

When purchasing simply add the number of licences required for your team. The licences will sit in a pool on your account and be taken on a first come, first served basis (unless you instruct us otherwise, please get in touch for more details).
You’ll then need to invite your employees using the 'Invite Trainees' menu item. Your employees will be sent their individual login details via email and they will log directly into your account to access the licences you purchased for them.
Trainees are often able to get their training reimbursed by their company or write it off as a training expense for their small business. Always best to seek advice from an accountant if you’re unsure.
